Pay-per-gigabyte ISP?

February 5th, 2008 Posted in ISP, Networking

The United States falls way behind other countries in the advancement of the Internet services. At last check, the US ranks 24th in terms of Internet penetration. Time Warner cable has now decided to trial “pay by gigabyte” plans to Texas markets. For home office employees such as myself, this can be severely detremental as some of the software packages I need to download include multiple components ranging from 100MB to 800MB in size. Time Warner has limited competition for cable ISP networks in the Texas area, however this should never be a reason for them to try and enforce these type of plans. Just looking at DSL Reports, Time Warner has enough problems with the network and they should fix those first before even thinking about trying something new like this.

Thankfully I have switched from Time Warner’s Internet service to use another service provider.
